Health Watch: Updates on COVID-19

In Ontario, health officials have logged 206 new patients with COVID-19. Ontario is seeing a slight uptick bring the provincial total to 33,301. The province has confirmed 31 deaths on Saturday bringing the provincial total to 2,595. This represents a significant increase on the 5 day rolling average of 13.6 deaths.

Around the world:

  • India recorded its highest one-day spike of 13,586 COVID-19 cases, raising its total to 380,532. Current deaths reached 12,573, a rise of 336 according to a Health Ministry statement.
  • Singapore has uplifted the ban and establishments have opened up. Singapore has one of the highest infections in Asia with 41,473 cases. These cases are mostly linked with foreign workers’ dorms.
  • Beijingremains stable with public health declaring the outbreak is under control. Beijing only recorded 25 new cases up just four from Thursday out of 32 national cases reported nationwide. Things are yet to be fully opened up as classes, events, and sports are on hold with 360,000 tests for the virus being carried away.
  • Japan has launched an app that notifies users who have come close into contact with someone infected with COVID-19. The app logs user’s data via Bluetooth and notifies someone when they are within a meter of each for 15 minutes or longer. If someone tests positive and disclose their results on the app, other users are notified of the anonymous person.
