Amazon acquires Zoox: Elon Musk Calls Jeff Bezos a Copycat
Amazon announced on Friday that it will acquire Zoox, a self-driving startup founded in 2014. Zoox has raised nearly $1 billion in funding and aims to develop autonomous driving technology, including vehicles, for the purposes of providing a full-stack solution for ride-hailing.
- Amazon said that Zoox will operate as a standalone company within the company. Word on road is many expect this acquisition is to support its own autonomous vehicle technology projects, including its last-mile delivery robots, which are six-wheeled sidewalk-treading bots designed to carry small packages to customer homes.
- Elon Musk took to Twitter to call Jeff Bezos a copycat for the deal. This isn’t the first time Elon has taken jabs at Bezos. Muskcalled Bezos, who runs rocket-launch startup Blue Origin LLC, a copy cat in April 2019 after hearing of plans for a satellite-based internet service to rival his own company’s. This is the epitome of Billionaire beef.
